Most people eat bread (those on an Atkins or a gluten-free diet notwithstanding)
With that idea in mind, here's a list of BAKERY THRIFT STORES:
Entenmann's Bakery Outlet (next door to TAN-A Asian Market)
(804) 673-9500
6213 W Broad St., Richmond, VA
Merita Bakery Thrift Store (BTW: Trivia- Did you know Merita bread was named for a local Richmond girl?)
(804) 321-0381
3619 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Richmond, VA 23223
Pepperidge Farm, Inc.
(804) 282-7918
411 N Ridge Rd., Richmond, VA
Wonder Bread & Hostess Cake - 2 Locations
(804) 262-8611
7301 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, VA 23228
(804) 271-8986
3806 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Richmond, VA 23234
Check sales at your local grocery. I've found some good deals on good bread at Kroger, for example.
Although they cost a tad more than the bakery thrifts, Panera Bread & Fresh Market have excellent, fresh artisan breads for reasonable prices. Many times, I feel the quality at those stores is worth the few extra pennies. On the other hand, I find Montana Gold, too expensive.
Jean Jacques and other local bakeries such as the Westhampton Pastry Shop, (5728 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA 23226-804/282-4413) also have good breads for reasonable prices.
Check out some of the ethnic bakeries for breads and pastries!
The SALVATION ARMY thrift stores give out FREE LOAVES OF BREAD to anyone!
