'TisThe Season for Local Produce !

It's almost summer & it's time for local produce!
Buying local produce is good for the local economy, usually good for your pocketbook & is a greener option than buying stuff shipped from another area. Fresh produce is yummy & a great addition to your healthy diet. Frugal, green, tasty & healthy; what's not to like?
During the colder seasons, most of these places close down except to sell Halloween & Thanksgiving pumpkins & Christmas trees.
I'm listing many, but not all local options for local produce.
I've shopped at all these markets & wouldn't hesitate to recommend them!

I wish I knew what happened to J&R myself. We drove by there recently, and where there was the stand, there was only a clear lot. If I hear anything, I'll post it here.

Here's another great site, featuring current news and features on local agriculture, as well as a fresh food locator. Restaurant and CSA locator will launch within a few weeks.

Visit www.SaveOurFood.org to check it all out.

In answer to where J&R are....Just keep driving west on Patterson...about 3/4 of a mile, and they are on your left. Awesome location....very nice set-up. I asked him what had happened and CVS bought the old lot and was going to "build right away." They scrambled to get off that lot and move...and then CVS did nothing.

I was just at J&R last week ang got THE BEST sweet pepper relish!

Found this blog by Googling "local produce." Thanks for the great list!!

I wanted to introduce you to Windows Hill Catering. I see you are in to local food and I love meeting people who are. We are a small caterer and personal chef service trying to make some head water in Richmond. We use exclusively locally grown and reared products for our events. We keep things small and simple as it is what our product allows. Check us out. Great blog. Thanks

Produce cart on Libbie Avenue just off Patterson Avenue:
The wonderful cart there is Shep's. They may be closed on Mondays, if I'm remembering right. I think they stay open until ~Halloween or Thanksgiving? Very tasty goods always, and incidentally, very kind.
